Swiss E-ID Integration

Switzerland's official digital identity is being introduced this year. Widmer Webseiten is a verified partner in the swiyu Public Beta Trust Registry and integrates the E-ID seamlessly into your existing systems.

01. The New Standard

The Swiss E-ID is the official government-operated digital proof of identity. Built on the swiyu infrastructure, it enables secure authentication with minimal data disclosure. The entire infrastructure is open source and transparent. The production rollout happens in 2026 and 2027.

02. Why Widmer Webseiten?

As a verified participant in the swiyu Public Beta Trust Registry, we are among the first Swiss ICT companies actively working with the E-ID infrastructure. We build custom integrations that fit your workflow.

Who is it for?

Public Administration

Municipalities, cantons and federal offices can digitize their citizen services with the E-ID. Online counters, building permits, criminal record extracts and other services work completely digitally.

Enterprises

Banks, insurance, telecom and retail can use the E-ID for account openings, age verification, digital signatures and secure customer identification.

Use Cases

Digital Counters

Online citizen services with verified identity, no in-person visits required.

Age Verification

Privacy-compliant age checks without unnecessary data disclosure.

Account Opening

Fully digital KYC processes with government-verified identity.

Digital Signatures

Legally binding electronic signatures with E-ID authentication.

Membership Cards

Digital membership and certificate credentials in the swiyu wallet.

Access Control

Secure entry systems for buildings, events or restricted areas.

No Media Breaks

Fully digital processes via QR code or deeplink to the swiyu wallet.

The rollout is happening now

The production E-ID infrastructure will be introduced in 2026 and 2027. Pilot projects for digital driving licenses and criminal record extracts are already running. Companies that integrate their systems now will be ready when regulatory requirements come into effect.

What does the BGEID mean for your organization?

01Mandatory acceptance for authorities

When the BGEID comes into force in early 2026, cantons and municipalities will be required to accept the E-ID as proof of identity. Authorities have a maximum of two years to adapt their systems. This affects every digital citizen service, from portal login to building permit submissions. Widmer Webseiten supports you with the technical integration so you meet the deadline and your digital services are ready on time.

02Review and adapt legal frameworks

Many existing regulations at cantonal and municipal level still require physical copies of official ID documents or mandate in-person appearances. These provisions need to be reviewed and where necessary adapted so the E-ID is recognized as an equivalent proof of identity. At the same time, it should be questioned whether identification is even necessary in every process. The BGEID promotes the principle of data minimization.

03Issue your own electronic credentials

The trust infrastructure behind the E-ID enables cantons and municipalities to issue their own electronic credentials. Examples include learner driving permits, debt enforcement extracts or membership confirmations. The canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden is already piloting the electronic learner driving permit. Widmer Webseiten helps you implement such credentials technically and integrate them into the swiyu infrastructure.

04AGOV integration and government login

The Authentication Service of Swiss Authorities (AGOV) will become the central login for government services. Existing portals and specialized applications must be connected in time. We handle the technical integration of AGOV into your existing system landscape, whether it's a municipal portal, building permit platform or internal administration system.
